Yveltal
Project “Y”
In a sense, this costume was Shadow Lugia 2.0. I had been wanting to revisit the first costume I had made but wasn't in the mood to recreate the costume entirely. That was when the latest Pokemon games, X and Y, released along with a new set of Pokemon. Yveltal, looking very similar in build to Shadow Lugia, was perfect to see how far my skills had grown.
The head, wings, feet, and tail were created out of high density foam I picked up from Joanns. For the head, the foam was glued down to a ski mask to allow for ease of taking the head on and off. The large antennas on the head have wire running through them to keep them standing. To create the pupils, small LEDs were wired throughout the head and placed where the eyes are.
The wings were difficult as in total produced a 12 foot wing span. The weight of the fabric combined with foam caused the wings to sag. To fix this, PVC pipes were cut and inserted into the wings to allow them to keep their shape as well as something for the wearer to grab onto. The tail was made using a similar technique but used wire instead of PVC piping to bend it into shape.
The legs are digit-graded legs and were filled with stuffing to help create an animal leg.

DragonCon Masquerade 2014
Yveltal is one of many costumes that I have entered into costume contests over the years.
Luckily this performance was caught on camera and showcases the costumes movements and size.
